'De-skilling' is a buzzword applied to the alleged attrition of skills through their infrequent practice.
In developing countries like India govt. pours lots of money in Medical Education so that rural people get due health care facility. People say the doctors are next to God. But these gods also have their families to look after and ambitions to live with. After going through such rigorous training what do you get in the govt. job apart from the best tool for the doctors..... the patients;........ a small room with piles of broken furnitures, few staffs to handle with and usually no medical tools to deal with the patients.
A great man has said,"Don't ask what society has given you, think what you have given to the society" Sure why not! You have given your prime youth to the society during your training when friends of your age were enjoying the power & wealth; you have given your eagerness to work for the people at such places where only people want to visit for their holidays only. But at what cost; for the cost of education of your children, quality of life of your family and the cost of forgetting what you have been trained with at your colleges. Thus I believe that the govt pays you your salary in compensation of your deskilling.
I also believe that this the major cause of brain drain for doctors......... atleast they have a good quality of life for themselves and their family........ if not more.
